PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

As we age, our skin produces less collagen and eventually loses its elasticity, collagen and youthful appearance.  Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy harnesses the existing power of your own body to help healing and improving the look and feel of your skin.

The platelets in our blood are for healing any damage to our skin. They have an ability to stimulate cell growth and regenerate tissue which, when used in PRP, can also help to promote the collagen in your skin to grow.

Firstly, a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge until the red blood cells separate from the platelets and plasma. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected back into your areas of concern to help soften, smooth and tighten your skin.  On injecting the extracted PRP into the skin, several growth factors are promoted that initiates repairing of tissues, reforming blood vessels and collagen synthesis.   PRP is also an ideal way to treat wounds and damaged skin cells.

Your procedure will be performed by our Consultant Surgeon.  You may start to notice a significant difference in the texture and tone of your skin in just a few weeks, as your skin starts to produce more collagen.

All treatments are tailored to the individual and results may vary.

A small amount of blood is taken from your arm as if you were having a standard blood test. This is placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the plasma from the other blood components producing a platelet rich plasma. It is then injected back into the site of injury, scars, skin or any lines and wrinkles. This is injected around the desired site using a very small needle. This procedure is 100% natural. Research shows that PRP obtained from the patient’s blood is safe, with very little risk of complications and allergic reactions. As the platelets are obtained from the patient’s own blood and there is no risk of disease transmission or risk of rejection.  The treatment will take around 30 to 40 minutes.

Areas of treatment:

  • Wound healing/scar removal
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Neck and décolletage
  • Back of the hands
  • Entire face rejuvenation
  • Any other parts of the body

You should notice an improvement of skin texture and tone within 3 weeks. Full collagen regeneration can take up to 3 months to see the final result. Mild swelling may be seen immediately post treatment. Over the following days and weeks, the platelets will release pre-stem cells and growth factors which will assist in more collagen growth enhancing the result.

Responses to treatments can vary but most conditions will require 1-3 sessions usually 4-6 weeks apart. The results can last up to 18 months. There is no limit to the number of treatments you can have for skin rejuvenation and maintaining youth but touch up treatments will maintain the results. Scars and wounds can be fully treated after 1-3 sessions. However, results and benefits can vary with each individual and any specific guarantees cannot be guaranteed.

Minimal swelling, bruising and redness can occur for 12-24 hours. Mild bruising can occur at the needle site which may be visible for 2-3 days

There is no risk of infection as treatment is antimicrobial.

No risk of granuloma, bumps and lumps.

No risk of asymmetry

No risk of allergy
